AS OF RIGHT NOW, HERE IN SOCAL, THERE ARE VERY FEW 3.90, 10 BOLT "T" GEAR SETS IN THE JUNK YARDS. YOU CAN STILL FIND LOTS OF 3.58'S 3.41'S 3.70'S SOME 3.30'S 34.10'S AND IF YOU ARE REALLY LUCKY 4.30'S. IT SEEMS THE CARS WITH 3.90'S ARE PRETTY MUCH GONE. I THOUGHT THAT I HAD FOUND ONE TODAY BUT WHEN I DROPPED THE UNIVERSAL IT WAS A 3.58, EVEN THOU THE ID TAG SAID IT WAQS SUPPOSED TO BE A 3.90. A LOT OF WORK FOR NOTHING.

There really isn't a ton of info out there.
I would invest in the "Dwarf Car Technology" book;
AND read as many of the old posts as you can.
There are a lot of helpful people on this forum.
I hope you find what you need.

How To Read The ID Plate:

On the tag, there is a code number which is the very bottom line. It may be something like:
147FT11T052W55 (example)
In those numbers, the group that is "T052" in the example identify the ring gear diameter and gear ratio. The digit "T" identifies it is a 6.7" diameter ring gear (10 bolt). An "S" code denotes a...

There are ratio tags but there not on the axle! There under the hood on the 2x3 VIN plate. You'll find the vin in large numbers then below you find Engine / Trans / Axle codes in smaller print.

Go to the "TECH INFO" Page not this forum but the page off the upper boarder there you will find a decode sheet from a dealer. Print it and take a copy with you to the junk yard.

I AGREE WITH MOST OF WHAT YOU POSTED EXCEPT FOR 410 ON MY LIST IT IS UNMARKED, THE 4.30 IS WHITE OR BIEGE. IF YOU HAVE THE 3rd MEMBER OUT YOU CAN FIND THE RATIO STAMPED ON THE RING GEAR IN ONE OF TWO WAYS. EITHER THE ACTUAL TOOTH COUNT FOR THE RING AND PINION OR THE RATIO ROUNDED TO THE CLOSEST WHOLE NUMBER AND THE FIRST DIGIT PAST THE DECIMAL POINT(3.58 WOULD 36)

330 - orange pinion nut
342 - purple
358 - pink
373 - red
390 - yellow
410 - green
430 - blue

I believe these are correct.

No, the don't use ratio tags. They use a color code on the pinion nut.
