Blackbird vs GSXR |

while my car is apart in the garage , i;m debating wheather to put my cbr 1100 back in or go with the gsxr 1100 oil cooled motor we picked up. the gsxr is
supposed to be built ,got it from a very reputable builder, supposed to be around 200 hp. My blackbird runs perfectly, and is very reliable. what would you
guys do? go with the reliabillity or the HP? PUT YOUR 2 CENTS WORTH IN HERE. thanx

So am I to understand that an oil cooled GSXR 1100 is not a good engine ? We are new to this and we have one of these engines.
Thanks for any info. |

I have not seen any problems with my 1100. I ran one all last year and didn't have any problems other then the clutch arm system, it also ran side by
side with gsxr 1000fi motors. The motor sat outside from 1993 till last year and all I did was pour some Marvel oil for a couple of days and put it in the car
and went to the races. I never had a problem with it over heating in 100 degree weather on alsphalt.

Unless you're running alky in the GSXR, I'd go with the blackbird. The alky would help the GSXR stay cool, and if you don't rev the piss out of it,
it'll last a good while.

I RAN A GSXR FOR 13 YEARS. I HAVE HAD 1 CRANK BREAK IN THE ENGINE. I'VE HAD ONE THAT WAS CRACKED WHEN I TOOK IT OUT, ON A ENGINE FRESHING UP. MY CAR WON
3/4 OF ALL THE RACES IT RAN IN 2005 AND IT TOOK THE CHAMPIONSHIP THAT YEAR. SO I WOULD BE AFRAID TO RUN ONE. THAT ISN'T TO SAY THAT THERE AREN'T MORE
POWERFULL MOTORS OUT THERE. BUT, I HAVEN'T FOUND THE SUZUKI TO BE UNRELIABLE OR TO BE THAT UNDER POWERED. I'VE ALWAYS RUN GOOD SYTHENTIC OIL AND GOOD
OIL COOLERS. I HAVE NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE TEMP. WHEN I COMPARED MY TEMP.'S WITH OTHERS RUNNING THE SAME ENGINE MINE WERE ALWAYS HIGHER BUT I HAVE NOT HAD
ONE PROBLEM FROM IT. I HAVE NOT EVER RUN ALK. SO I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT. FOR ONE THING OUR CLUB DOESN'T ALLOW IT, AND I DON'T FULLY UNDERSTAND THE
TUNING OF IT.

The earlier 1052 crank is the one that does not break.
A highly built oil cooled is not always the most reliable of motors. |

THE "HIGHLY BUILT" PART IS TRUE OF EVERY MOTOR. FOR THE MOST PART THE MOTORAS IN THESE CARS DON'T HAVE TO BE "HIGHLY BUILT" TO WORK
QUITE WELL IN THE CARS. THE MORE THEY STRESSED THE MORE THEY ARE PRONE TO FAIL. THIS HELDS PRETTY MUCH TRUE WITH EVERYTHING IN LIFE.

this gsxr is punched out to 1205 and was a ERC house motor . it came out of a mini sprint, was only used in the championship round, but has'nt ran in a
couple of years

I've run built GSXR oil cooled engines on alcohol in Mini Sprints for the last 11 years. They ALWAYS break, it's just a question of when. In the
first few years, it wasn't too bad, but in the last 5 or 6 years I couldn't seem to get more than about 15 - 20 nights out of a crankshaft! Maybe
it's because the engines are getting older, but I like to think it's because I'm pushing them harder!
I was always having problems blowing 2nd gear out also, didn't seem to matter what stock or billet gears I put in them. I finally decided it was best
(least costly) to use the 4 dog 1127 stock gears and replace them every season.

I SAT AND THOUGHT ABOUT RESPONDING TO THIS. LIKE I SAID ABOVE I HAVE BEEN RUNNING GSXR'S FOR 14 YEARS. I'VE HAD 2 MOTORS THROW RODS, ONE WAS A
"PRO BUILT" MOTOR WITH 3 RACES ON IT AND THE I BUILT AND IT WAS MY FAULT IT BLEW, THE OIL FILTER CAME LOOSE AND IT PUMPED OUT THE OIL. ALSO, LIKE
SAID ABOVE I'VE HAD 2 BROKEN CRANKS.ALL OF THE MOTORS THAT WE, MY SON(DRIVER) AND I(MOTOR ASSEMBLER) HAVE RUN HAVE BEEN HOME ASSEMBLED. IHAVE ASSEMBLED 3
ZX11'S AND 1 FJ. ALL HAVE RUN WITH AND PULLED THE COMPITION. I DON'T CLAIM TO BE ANYTHING OTHER THAN A PERSON PUTS THEM TOGETHER. WE HAVE ONLY MISSED 2
MAINS IN THAT TIME. THAT'S PROBALBY JUST GOOD LUCK BUT IT WORKS IN OTHER FAVOR .LIKE I SAID IT ISN'T THE MOST "POWERFUL" MOTOR THAT GETS THE
CHAMPIONSHIP IT'S THE ONE THAT RUNS THE MOST CONSITANTLY. I'VE HEARD PEOPLE BAD MOUTH THE SUZUKI'S BUT I'VE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH THEM. I'M
STILL RUNNING 1 CAR WITH A 1985 GSXR(2005 CHAMPION CAR) AND THE OTHER IS NOW A ZX12. THAT TOO HAS NOT GIVEN US ANY PROBLEMS(2006 CHAMPION CAR) BOTH CARS ARE
LIMITED PRODUCTION R & B CHASSIS.
