The North Series got off to an exciting and most entertaining race at the Merrittville Speedway last night as 25 modified lites took the green in race # 1 of
the six race program.
Mikey Hay took the inside pole with local hot shoes Shawn Sliter and Paul Klager starting second and third as a result of each winning their qualifing heats. It was the first racing of the season for most of the drivers, however, the long winter layoff didn't affect the ability of all drivers to produce very clean entertaining and close racing.
The eVolution 22 of Mikey Hay drove wire to wire without too much problem. A last lap caution gave Shawn Sliter an oportunity to almost catch Mikey on turn four, but the eVolution car took the checker with the Modern 71 of Shawn Sliter a close second. The Ripley's Believe It Or Not # 1 of Paul Klager, The # 53 of Jamie Gilbert and the Five Star # 28 Of Adam Murphy rounding out the top five.
The second race of this series will be run at the Ohsweken Speedway on Friday May 30 / 08. The Ohsweken track is one of the fastest 3/8 mile oval anywhere. The World of Outlaws names Ohsweken the best promotional track in all their events in 2007. They liked the track so much that they have a WOO late Model series as well as a two day WOO sprint series this summer. For more information and directions go to www.ohswekenspeedway.com
