NADCAR News 2009
7/3 - Independence Day weekend racing at PVR was fast and furious on the flat clay. A five car battle developed with John Ogden leading the group of Brian Comley, Mike Williams, Mike Dunn, and Matt Decker. Positions two through five swapped a number of times due to the multi lane track conditions. Mike Williams and Mike Dunn were able to get by John Ogden within the last couple laps. All three driving Dwarf Trucks to cross the checkered flag in order. Brian Comley bringing his Black 34 Chevy Sedan in for fourth and his 69 year old father in law Butch Dunn battled to fifth. Charles "Ricky Bobby" Smith grabs sixth for his best finish ever. NADCAR would like to thank Storm Phillips of Arrow Redi-Mix for stepping up and sponsoring the 2nd & 3rd place trophies for the rest of this year's PVR events. 7/18 - The Williams family swept the trophies at Thunder Raceway Saturday night!
Melanie Williams #39 lead green to checker in the JBJ Trucking
trophy dash, she ran just ahead of Randy Dienes #90 and Mike Witt #13. The first heat
race had the quick Tim Cotherman #43 out running #18 Matt Decker, all the way from Black Canyon City and Helen Henesey followed with a close 3rd. The second heat race was taken by our furthest traveler
of the night, Jesse Patterson out of Tucson, he beat the always quick Mike Williams and
John Ogden. The third heat race was an exciting one with George Cooke out running Pat
Henesey until 2 laps to go, Cooke made a small slip up coming out of 4, and Henesey took full advantage, taking the heat win, followed by Cooke, Racey
Mike Bracy and fan favorite Frank Phillips.
The smooth track preparation set up fast racing from top to bottom, which was bound to lead to some exciting action. Cooke and Ogden lead the field to the green to log only one lap before the red flag was thrown, Jesse Patterson entered a little to high in 3 and slammed into the exiting wall of the track, ending his hopes for a good finish, also collected in the mishap was Mike Witt and Bob Craig all the way up from Williams, AZ. The action was close and quick up front with Mike Williams finally finding his way to the lead, Tim Cotherman, Matt Decker, Ogden, and Pat Henesey had nothing for the quick Williams, who drove his car straight to victory lane. Next race is in Prescott, See you all there!!

8/1 - There has been two schedule changes to the NADCAR Prescott Valley Raceway events. We have been notified that the Labor Day weekend event has been
cancelled and the September 19th event has been cancelled. Please see the revised schedule.
8/1 - Dunn Bros. take first and third with John Ogden finishing with his best result in second. A fast track proved to be the key to the exciting Arrow Redimix sponsored main event as positions swapped back and forth through out the field. Mike Dunn and his "Bad Monkey" Dwarf Car Co. Truck took the early lead and paced the field. Gareld Hardy made a couple passes for the lead with one being called back by a yellow. Mike Williams charged to the front only to have a miss fire plague him during the last restart dropping him to fourth on the night. North Carolina resident Steve Dunn finished a strong third vowing revenge at next weeks event. Heat race winners on the night were Mike Williams, Pat Henesey, and Gareld Hardy. Aug 15th, 2009 Points Race #13 1.Mike Dunn 2.Mike Williams 3.Steve Dunn 4.Helen Henesey 5.Butch Dunn 6.Frank Phillips 7.Heather Henesey 8.Matt Decker 9.Randy Deines 10.Rick Haase 11.Neil Etter 12.Scott Cardella 13.AJ Breu 14.Melanie William 15.Mike Witt 16.John Ogden 17.Tim Cotherman 18.Pat Henesey 8/15 - With rain on Friday, a lot of prep was put into the Thunder Raceway Track and it paid off with a glass smooth racing surface on Saturday night. The draw for the trophy dash posted George Cooke, Steve Dunn, Frank Phillips, and Randy Deines. Local boy Frank Phillips jumped out into the lead for the 4 lap dash with Dunn moving past Cooke for 2nd. As Dunn searched for a way around Phillips, Cooke muscled his way back into 2nd just as the white flag came out. Phillips wins! Heat one was a stacked event and John Ogden continued with his recent front running drives and lead flag to flag with Tim Cotherman and Mike Williams in tow. Steve Dunn, Butch Dunn, and Heather Henesey battled for the final invert finishing in order. Heat two saw Frank Phillips leading again and Pat Henesey hounding him all the way to the checkered. Rookie driver AJ Breu with another good drive to third. Heat three saw some action with early leader Melanie Williams spin into the infield and leaving Mike and Mike to decide who wanted the top spot. Mike Dunn reeled off the last few laps in front with Matt Decker and Helen Henesey following. Mike Witt pulls the last invert position with 4th. By the main event there was a definite blue groove formed. With the first start being called back, Helen Henesey in her pretty Blue Iron Horse Coatings 40 Ford Pickup took the lead and held on through the first couple cautions. Meanwhile, Mike Dunn found the bottom line to make his way past Helen by the 1/2 way mark. Mike Williams was chasing with Steve Dunn sticking his nose in and searching for a way around to get to his brother. Mike Dunn stuck to the bottom like a catfish and making all challengers look to the high line. Helen Henesey still hanging in fourth and Butch Dunn with another charge to fifth. Just as the white flag flew, Steve Dunn mounted his last lap effort and climbed the back straight wall and triggered a chain of events that left himself, Dad Butch, and two other cars sideways and stopped in turn 3. Just prior to that, another car spun in turn 2 that caused the caution leaving Mike Dunn to finish with waving checkered and yellow flags. Thunder Raceway revised the finish results based on a protest filed by a member. The offical results are posted. |

9/18 - 20 Racers showed up for the last event of the season at Thunder
Raceway. Keeping the points race tight, Mike Williams made the trip from Prescott, along with Randy Haugen and Russ Maurer coming all the way from Albuquerque, NM to join in on the fun. The night started out with a
very fast JBJ Trucking Trophy Dash, Helen Henesey took the lead away
from Matt Decker in turn 1 and never looked back. The Coconino Motors sponsored #10 truck
out ran the quick Mike Bracy to the checker flag for the first win of the night! Heat 1 had Tim Cotherman out running a hard charging Pat Henesey to the checker. Heat 2 had the
Phillips brothers, Frank #1 and Storm #5 leading the field to the green flag, they both couldn't hold off the fast Helen Henesey, who out drove Frank Phillips, Heather Henesey, and Storm Phillips to the checkered flag. Heat 3
also brought excitement to the Show Low crowd as Mike Williams proved he was a Points Champion contender out running Mike Bracy and Matt Decker to take the
third heat win. The main event had a small mix up on the first lap, taking out the heat race winners Helen Henesey, Tim Cotherman and the always quick
"Racey" Mike Bracy. The group settled down for a complete re-start and it was back to racing. Matt Decker charged ahead to take the lead. He started
to check out just ahead of Heather Henesey and the aggressive Mike Williams. Decker couldn't get a hold of the track as his sedan looped it coming out of
turn 2. This brought the yellow out, letting Mike Williams re-start the field ahead of Heather Henesey, who wasn't going to give him an easy victory. Russ
Madden followed in 3rd just ahead of points leader #12 Pat Henesey. Williams and Heather Henesey broke away from the field, Henesey giving it all she had to
get around the flawless Mike Williams and was unsuccessful. Mike took the win with Heather Henesey coming in a close second, Pat Henesey got around Russ Madden
to take 3rd, with John Ogden holding on to round out the top 5. The battle for the Championship
is getting tight. 1st - Pat Henesey (853)(top 12 races only), 2nd - Mike Williams (784), 3rd- Tim Cotherman (726), 4th Heather Henesey (684), 5th Helen
Henesey (643). With three races left in the series and the new points structure, the top three spots in the championship are still up for grabs. Next race is
at Prescott Valley Raceway on Oct. 3rd.

Crazy Man John Ogden won again......
10/3 - Hot off the heels of his first main event win at the North - South Shootout, John Ogden returned to PVR and won his first NADCAR main event. Ryan Henesey took the lead from the pole at the start and lead the first part of the main running his Williams Built Rent a Ride. Mike Williams, Pat Henesey, and Matt Decker were all in the mix at the front. John Ogden searching for a way around found a high line that none of the leaders were using. With this line John was able to pick his way through the pack and take the lead with about half the main event to go. Even more impressive was the fact that John out ran 3 Dwarf Car National Champions and 3 Dwarf Car Series Points Champions. Very impressive! We would also like to welcome two more new members to the club. Brian Craig and Randy Dutra (11th place finish !!) This brings our club roster up to 63 members for the 2009 season. The 2009 NADCAR series points chase has tightened slightly with Pat Henesey still leading with 869 pts., Mike Willians railing with 822 pts. and Tim Cotherman with 740 pts. With only the top 12 races counting the points title is far from over. It will come down to the last two races of the season hosted my Mojave Valley Raceway. Oct 10th and Oct. 24th.

10/10 - NADCAR took the show to Mojave Valley Raceway and put on some great racing for the fans in the grandstands. All eyes were on the championship contenders since it is still up for grabs. Heat #1 saw points leader Pat Henesey follow Mike Dunn the entire 6 laps and at one point tapping the #67 Dunn truck on the rear bumper trying to find a way around. Dunn takes the win followed by Pat Henesey and Matt Decker. Heat #2 saw another green to checker run with Tim Cotherman, Helen Henesey, and Randy Deines finishing first, second, and third. All the action was in heat #3 with Storm Phillips breaking a suspension on the green flag putting him out. Mike Williams checked out until 3 laps in when Todd Cameron wheel hopped AJ Breu on the back straight sending Todd into the tire barriers in turn three. After the red flag, Butch Dunn was unable to restart due to a broken engine part and the leader Mike Williams had to limp to a second place finish with a broken suspension mount. Rookie driver AJ Breu takes his first heat race win! NADCAR paraded the track with a Four Wide Salute To The Fans that brought the crowd to their feet. When the green flag flew it was all about the outside lane. AJ Breu dropped the hammer and lead the field with Matt Decker in tow. Pat Henesey got to the outside of Mike Dunn for third and started his march to the front. By lap three, Pat had taken the lead and was checking out on Dunn with Mike Williams in hot pursuit gunning for that championship. With excellent driving from all the NADCAR drivers the Main Event went green to checkers without any yellow flags. With this years Best of 12 Championship Points format coming into play, the points race is very close for the top two positions as well as third on down. With only one race left on the schedule and using a best of 11 race formula to calculate points, Mike Williams has a one point advantage over Pat Henesey. For third in the points it's Tim Cotherman with an eight point advantage over Mike Dunn. It looks like it will come down to the final race at MVR on Oct.. 24th to see who takes the top three spots in the NADCAR points championship for 2009. Mojave Valley Raceway
