Texas Grand 09 Engine Rules Question |
Lead | |
|
The Engine rule for the Grand states "Only stock motors allowed (if you raced your motor in 2008 it will be legal in 2009)". I did not run the Grand
last year. Will I or will I not be able to run a built GSXR1100 this year. Would like an official answer as I don't want to spend the travel money to get
there, then not be allowed to run.
Thanks James Lewis |

I also think you have to run GOODYEAR tires. Check on that too! |

I have someone who is going to loan/give me some used tires to use for both cars. PS The banquet last night was AWSOME, Gene did a great job setting it up. Also Lori, Gene, & Wayne hustled up a bunch of door prizes. |

According to other post. No built engines.

This is a perfect reason why clubs should go to stock engines.
As far as I know there is no club out there that has a rule that says "You must use waste your hard earned money on a perfectly good engine and build it up so that you can make someone else rich and go a few tenths of a second faster and replace your waste of money built engine with another waste your money built engine after the first one detonates because you redesigned the engine that was not built for it." The clubs that allow built engines are not thinking and must be in bed with the engine builders. For the person that says...."well I must build my 1986 GSXR to compete with the stock FI engines or compete with the other knucklehead that built there old engine up" is not thinking also.....why......because they can go buy a FI for less than what it would take to build the older engine up. Well...I'm getting off my soapbox.....I feel better now. Fred |

Wish I could have been there. My sons football team suffered only there 2nd loss of the season in a real tough loss. We had 4 turnovers in the first half all
leading to them getting touchdowns and still on lost by 12 points. Sure would like a rematch though. Good luck at the Grand to all that go.

wow...Fred and I agree | ||

Well Fred often I don't agree with you on topics I read...but when it comes to wasting money on "built" motors versus just getting the lastest
technology the factory is providing in stock form we are together on that.
I am very glad that in New Hampshire both the 600cc tour and the Riverside Speedway class (1000cc) are on factory stock rules. I think it will build the car counts. |

Yea your right, we must be screwing this up. We only have 40 plus registered drivers and 34 registered cars. With a nightly average of 26 to 28 cars, with 30
plus cars several nights this year running double features. What's your car counts maybe your onto something.
Has anyone that answered/commented carried the weight of an official answer. From what I've been told they were hoping for a good turn out again this year. Do the people putting on the grand really want to eliminate the possibility of 15 or so additional cars that are right here in Texas. There was talk of a Big Texas race/races with the three main groups here. This would have been a good test run to see how it would work out, that was one of the reasons I was going to try to make it this year. Doesn't seem too grand if it eliminates cars from our specific group, probably close to half of the cars in Texas So again I would like someone WITH an official capacity to answer the question. I can read english and rules, I'm not just asking for myself. We just had our banquet and this specific question was discussed at our table and with a few others standing near. So concerning the engine rule. Is it going to be done according to the rules or will there be an exception for our groups cars. Standing on the soap box, thanks for stepping down Fred, looking thru the crowd for an official answer. |

James, see this post by Mike Christians (The president) on Future Events (Texas Grand).
Rule: In "2009" all motors must remain completely stock. Any club member who raced their motor in "2008" that motor will also be legal in "2009" (all motor serial numbers will be recorded during the 2008 season) NO built motors allowed period !!! That is where I got my info, so I would say thats pretty official. I totally understand what you are saying about car count and that is why I started the post about a Texas Series. BUT, The Texas Grand is a race hosted by Texana group, so I would say they can make the rules. Bryan |

James,
You have great car counts and more than us at this time.....however Colorado dwarf cars are growing fast and this is in part due to the stock engines. We had 28 cars at a 3 club race this. You would have more if you had more affordable engine rules. Look at the SWModlites.....they are doing great with car count and it keeps growing. They have stock engine rules. I would think that people have moved from your club to the modlites for the more affordable engines to compete against. Fred |

Hi James,
I am the Vice President of the club. Just to make it official. The motors must remain stock. You can freshen a motor as long as it retains the stock configurations. If the motor was a the Grand last year and had a serial number taken it can run as built but that is the limit to the built motors. We have taken this step as a group to keep racing competetive and the cost down. It has done the job this year. Thats for sure. Frank 3x |

I also read a post earlier that any car that was legal in LSDCC would be legal at the Grand. Was that from last year or am I remembering wrong? As far as built
vs. Stock. Very few people have the ability or capability to know who has kept there motor stock. So I am to assume that the guys who are willing to spend
$4000 on building an older motor are just happy buying a stock motor for $2000 and leaving it alone. Trust me they are spending their money on the motor, you
just dont know where! As far as car count growing if we changed to stock. We have another group in TX doing that, and they have been around longer than us. We
just finished our 4th year, we started with about 12 to 17 cars and have been adding ever since. Hopefully our good luck continues seeing as we make bad
decisions! We have 44 registered cars and about 12 I beleive would be considered built. I guess I will tell the guys that are competitive with their stock
motors that it is just not possible and the $500 they spent on a ZX9 was a waste of money that they should have spent $2000 on a new FI. Everybody has
different rules for a reason, they work for them. These seem to be working for us for the time being, so dont knock it! Just think your car count might have
doubled if your guys only had to spend $500 on a competitive motor too! JMO

Different strokes for different folks. I say whatever works for your group or club is the right thing for you. Fred I dont think they ever run modlites in
Texas anymore

We have ran the grand for several years and built motors have been allowed every year, so where have all of these cars been that are mysteriously going to show
up this year. I will tell you where they have been, the same place they are going to be this year, at home, with no intentions of going to the grand. You can
talk all that B.S. you want to about all the cars that are not going to go because of the motor rule, I have been there the last several years and it isn't
going to happen. While I am here, I will go ahead and say this.. How many of those stock $500 motors have won a race or a series... LOL

i apologise for the mistake i made a comment about the motors i was wrong i don't think it would be a big deal to let the built carb motors in the grand
being its not a points race due to the fact that if we don't have a good car count we probably wont have a grand next year but that is my opinion and
nothing more.

I was at the meeting last year and I thought it ended out that it was a downdraft feel injected to remain stock. a sigh draft carb could be built to 12 ? .
Then the12 were ran last year and numbers were listed could run until they needed to be replaced. But I am not unofficial that's just what I remember

How about 1 that finished only 43 points behind for the points championship. Way to go Jason Walters in your stock ZX9. I didnt say a stock motor from our club
would compete with the Grand rules though. Thats a different ball game there. Most of our built motors cant compete there! Our rules in our club are set up to
make it competitive for all our motors. 2 or 3 of our top 5 from points this year are stock motors. Competitive is the Key word! Like somebody posted earlier
different strokes for different folks. This has been working for us!

This is what I call competitive, Sebie took third in one of his cars last year, and I think his other car took fourth. Not only that, he was all over the
leaders, nobody ran away with anything... Sebie if you are running the same motors you ran last year, according to our rules you are still legal. If your
serial numbers were not recorded last year, that does not fall on you.
